DESIGNS for an overhaul of council offices and a town centre are on public display.

Competing designs for the development of Bexley council's civic offices site, in Bexleyheath, went on display by the town centre clock tower yesterday.

The Bexley First Programme, announced in July 2007, is due to regenerate the town centre with £160 million of private investment and to provide new community facilities.

Council leader Teresa O'Neill said: "Having the design solutions on display shows residents the whole new shopping experience that this redevelopment has to offer."

However, companies that showed an interest in investing in the Bexleyheath regeneration did not include Tesco or Sainsbury's.

The programme will also see the council centre its operations onto one new building on the current civic offices site.

Design drawings from John Laing and The Mall Corporation will be on display by Bexleyheath clock tower from 9am to 5pm until Friday, and then between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.

The council is due to choose a successful developer in May.
