A BY-ELECTION will take place today following the death of a councillor.

Residents in Plumstead ward can vote for a representative to replace the late Labour councillor Kanta Patel.

The candidates are Toks Bailey, Conservative Party, Leonie Katherine Barron, Liberal Democrats, Jessica Currie, Green Party, and Matthew Morrow, Labour Party.

Mr Morrow, 37, of Hartville Road, Plumstead, who works for Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice, said he would help tackle crime and campaign for youth facilities.

Greenwich Conservatives claim he will be in close competition with Ms Bailey, a mother-of-two who claims Plumstead has no voice on the council.

Polling stations are due to open between 7am and 10pm in Gallosson Road, Plumstead High Street, St Nicholas Road, Wickham Lane and Bassant Road.

For more information call the council on 020 8921 5184.
