A MEMORIAL service will be held for a "hardworking and popular" husband who died in a car crash when travelling home from celebrating his wedding anniversary.
Darren Francomb, of Timber Bank, Vigo, near Gravesend, was among three who died in the crash on Wrotham Hill, A20, on December 20.
The 48-year-old and his wife Hilary, who survived, were both returning home from lunch with friends to celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary when the Toyota Hi-Lux they were travelling in collided with a black Mercedes, travelling in the opposite direction.
James Mealings, 65, of Fairby Road, Lee, and his companion Joan Hutchins, 78, of Eversly Avenue, Barnehurst, who were travelling in the Mercedes, both died at the scene.
Mr Francomb, who had three sons, Ben, 22, Lewis, 19 and Elliot 18, was a director of a successful family run joinery company DLD Joinery, based in Powerscroft Road, Footscray.
A statement from his family, including his father Terry Francomb, who was at the family home on Tuesday, said: "Darren was a Director of a highly successful family run joinery company.
"He is hardworking, and a popular character that proudly cherished his family and lived life to the full.
"He will be sadly missed."
Relatives will hold a private funeral for Mr Francomb, but a memorial service, which is open to anyone that knew him, will be held on January 14 at the St Mary the Virgin Church in Stansted.
Kent Police closed the A20 in both directions after the crash, and it was finally reopened at 7am on the Monday.
Inquests into all three deaths have been opened and adjourned.
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have asked anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles, a black Mercedes C200 and a blue Toyota Hi Lux, in the area prior to the incident to contact them on 01622 798538.
