Truancy police round up children across borough caught skipping school

Eight police officers were involved in the truancy patrol

Teams of police officers and education welfare officers stopped nearly 40 young people during a truancy patrol recently.

Roaming the streets of Erith, Thamesmead, Crayford, Welling and Sidcup officers patrolled in a police marked people carrier and an unmarked police car.

Four more police officers and EWOs patrolled the Broadway Shopping Centre in Bexleyheath.

A total of 38 young people were stopped.

Follow-up letters will be sent to their schools and parents where appropriate.

Another patrol is expected before the end of the summer term.
