FOOT tunnels that run under the Thames are set to get a £11.5 million revamp.

Bosses at Greenwich council which operates the Greenwich and Woolwich foot tunnels, used by more than 1.5 million people are year, has been given the money from the government's Community Infrastructure Fund.

The 100-year-old tunnels will get new lifts, lighting, signing, drainage, CCTV, help buttons, leak sealing, refurbished stairways and head houses.

The work is due to be complete by March 2011.
