Thirty-five firefighters battled the fire on Saturday evening

Thirty-five firefighters tackled a blaze that damaged two houses in Bexleyheath on Saturday.

Crews from Plumstead, Sidcup, Bexley and Erith fire sations battled the blaze, which left the Sunland Avenue properties’ roofs and a garage badly damaged.

A man, woman and three children left the house where the fire started before the brigade arrived. All five were checked over by London Ambulance Service at the scene as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
