A second landslide happened on Wednesday

Train services have resumed on the Bexleyheath line after three days of closures.

After a landslide closed the Dartford via Bexleyheath line on Tuesday, engineers nearly had the line reopened on Wednesday night - until a second landslide dumped soil on repair works.

A spokesperson from Network Rail blamed dated railway design from the 19th century, coupled with recent wet weather, as the root cause of the landslides.

The initial landslip dumped more than 200 tonnes of trees, soil and debris onto the railway tracks near the station at around 10pm, closing the 8 mile stretch of track.

Commuters have had to use alternative routes since the line was closed on Tuesday.

Southeastern has said it is “very sorry for the disruption”.
