Bexley-born X Factor star Sam Bailey proved a hit in front of the show’s first live television audience on Saturday night.

The prison guard’s rendition of Jennifer Rush’s classic The Power of Love brought praise from all four judges - Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger.

Sharon told her “you nailed it” following the performance, leaving her in no danger of being in the bottom two following the public vote.

Take That’s Gary thinks it was “the perfect song choice” and Pussycat Dolls added “where do you go from here if this is what you’re starting with?”

Mum-of-two Sam, 36, wowed the studio audience in the 80s themed show.

Lorna Simpson was the first act to exit after losing in a sing-off to Shelley Smith.
