AN annual community festival had to be closed early after violence erupted between a group of teenagers.

AN annual community festival had to be closed early after violence erupted between a group of teenagers.

Neighbourhood police called for back-up from the Territorial Support Group and a helicopter at the Trust Thamesmead Summer Festival last Saturday (11).

Several of the youths were arrested for minor public disorder offences and given fixed penalty notices.

The festival had to be closed at 5.10pm, nearly an hour before it was due to an end.

Bexley police closed off Bentham Road after youths were spotted by helicopter throwing bottles and demolishing a wall to arm themselves with bricks.

Trust Thamesmead's chief executive Mick Hayes: "We regret the impact this might have had on the genuine festival-goers.
