A RETIRED engineer has been awarded for his volunteer work with the police.

John Cobbett, 67, from Bexleyheath, was one of three volunteers to be awarded for his exemplary contribution as a volunteer in the police, at the Royal Festival Hall on November 10.

Mr Cobbett, one of 63 volunteers for Bexley police, has worked at Bexleyheath Police Station since June last year, assisting in the Integrated Borough Operations (IBO) Unit and Property Store. Partnership Chief Inspector Steve Murrant said: "John is an excellent example of what the community can bring to their police service.

"His award is richly deserved and all his colleagues are very pleased that he has been recognised in this way.
