Met Office issues advance warning of possible travel disruption

Thunderstorms bringing heavy rain could hit the south east on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning and says localised intense downpours in the county and south London could bring as much as 15mm of rain in an hour, with 30 to 50mm falling in three hours.

Transport and outdoor activities could be disrupted and, the Met Office, adds ‘lightning could prove to be an additional hazard’.

The thunderstorms should clear away eastwards on Friday night.

A spokesman added: “As is typical of this type of situation there is considerable uncertainty as regards the extent and timing of any thunderstorms, with some places within the warning area probably escaping the downpours. Therefore this warning will be kept under review and updated as necessary.”
