Welling United goalkeeper Lee Butcher made a crucial late save to deny play-off hopefuls Forest Green Rovers victory in the Conference Premier.

Toby Ajala forced home goalkeeper Sam Russell into the first save of the game, before former Coventry City and West Brom striker Lee Hughes and James Norwood both threatened for Rovers.

Matt Taylor curled an effort over the bar and another wide as the hosts pushed for an opener after half-time.

Harry Beautyman and Jake Gallagher went close for the visitors but Butcher ensured Welling escaped with a draw, denying ex-Football League striker Luke Rodgers from close range late on.

The draw leaves the Wings in 14th place in the table, 15 points clear of the relegation zone and seven points adrift of the play-off places with eight games remaining.

Welling were face Braintree at home tomorrow before welcoming relegation-threatened Chester City to Park View Road on Saturday.
