A difficult week saw Welling United fail to beat lower league opposition three times in five days.

The Wings travelled to Isthmian Premier League outfit Margate Town on Saturday and battled to a 0-0 draw.

This followed on the back of a desperately disappointing performance against local rivals Thamesmead Town two days earlier.

The 3-0 defeat at Bayliss Avenue was compounded by goals from former Welling forwards Theo Fairweather-Johnson and Jon Main, both players having left Park View Road this summer.

Baff Addae completed the scoring for Mead.

The run of away fixtures had started with a trip to former Conference South adversaries Tonbridge Angels last Tuesday (July 16).

Last season’s top scorer Ross Lafayette gave Welling the lead but Luke Blewden equalised in the second half to ensure the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

The Wings travel to Maidstone tomorrow (July 23) and local rivals Bromley on Saturday (July 27) as they step up their pre-season preparations.
