Welling United returned to winning ways with a gritty 1-0 win over Havant and Watelooville on Saturday.
Defender Ben Martin scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to keep the Wings three points behind Conference South leaders Salisbury City.
He headed in a corner from Day for his second league goal of the season.
It was a match of few chances as relegation-threatened Havant came to Park View Road with a defensive game plan.
De’Reece Vanderhyde made his home debut and player-manager Jamie Day made three changes from the defeat to Sutton United - Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Jon Main and Martin came in for Lee Clarke, Fraser Franks and Scott Kinch.
Rosds Lafayette, Jon Main and Hughes-Mason all missed good chances before the latter was unlucky not to win a penalty for the home side after being fouled in the area.
But Welling keeper also made a great save to deny Havant striker Ollie Palmer, one of the top scorers in the division, in the closing minutes.
Welling have the opportunity to go top against play-off chasing Farnborough tomorrow night before travelling to Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday.
