Welling United's excellent recent run was halted as their clash with Tonbridge Angels fell foul of the inclement weather.

Welling United’s excellent recent run was halted as their clash with Tonbridge Angels fell foul of the inclement weather.

The referee carried out an inspection on the Park View Road pitch at 10.30am on Saturday (22) and deemed that the waterlogged pitch was too dangerous for the players.

It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 22 at 7.45pm.

All the games in the Blue Square Bet South were postponed so the Wings did not lose any grounds on their rivals for automatic promotion, Salisbury City and Dover Athletic.

Welling have won nine successive games in the league and FA Trophy and will be looking to continue that excellent run during a packed Christmas programme.

They were due to travel to AFC Hornchurch yesterday (Boxing Day), followed by a trip to Sutton United and a home match with Hornchurch on New Year’s Day.

Salisbury hold a five-point lead over Welling with Dover two points further back. Both have played a game more.

It has also been announced that the away game against Staines Town, which was postponed due to the Wings FA Trophy involvement, will be played on Tuesday, January 15 at 7.45pm.
