AN ICONIC high street store which was forced to close due to burgeoning debts is to become a 99p shop.

AN ICONIC high street store which was forced to close due to burgeoning debts is to become a 99p shop.

The former Woolworths shop, in High Street, Sidcup, is set to become a 99p store on Monday, creating around 30 jobs.

Amongst the 4,000 different 99p items the chain stock, on offer will be a 17-piece tea set.

A competition to be a 99p store 'VIP' by cutting the red ribbon at the opening ceremony and winning a trolley dash has been launched.

Entrants should explain in nine words why they love a bargain, and email their answer and full contact details to sidcup@gbpublicityltd.com

The competition closes tomorrow at 1pm.
