Woolwich ferry crew member, 19, dies after falling into Thames

A 19-year-old crew member on the Woolwich ferry died this morning after falling into the Thames.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 6.10am to reports of a man being borough ashore by the coastguard.

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course and police are awaiting formal identification.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) within the Department for Transport has been informed. Greenwich police will be liaising with the MAIB whilst inquiries continue into the circumstance surrounding the incident.

An inquest will open and adjourn in due course.
