One young Bexley athlete got more than he bargained when he took on a role at the Anniversary Games in the Olympic Stadium on Friday (July 26) - he got to carry Usain Bolt’s kitbag.

Tommy Randham, a 16-year-old sprinter on Bexley’s Sporting Best scheme, said: “It was crazy meeting my hero. He was a really nice, genuine guy and he asked how I was.

“I was a bit starstruck. I spent about 10 minutes with him and it was really surreal while he was by the track warming up and he just seemed completely relaxed.

“I still can’t believe I got to meet him and chat to him, it will really spur me on in my athletics.”

Tommy is a promising young sprinter himself - the teenager won bronze at the prestigious English Schools Championship and he is ranked first in the under 17 age group nationwide at 100m at 60m.
