A YOUNG mother was killed in a suspected hit and run incident just yards from her home.

A YOUNG mother was killed in a suspected hit and run incident just yards from her home.

Claire Lane, 31, of Elmfield Court, Wickham Street, Welling was knocked down by a silver convertible Mercedes last Sunday at approximately 5.30pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were seen getting out of the car and running away from the crash at Wickham Street.

Sergeant Simon Seeley, of the Catford Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We really need to hear from anyone who saw what happened on this stretch of road at tea-time on Sunday.

'This is a very sad incident where a young mum died just minutes from her home.

"The collision happened near a pub and we know people were outside at that time and may well have seen what happened. I would urge them or anyone else in the area that saw the collision or the men fleeing the scene to contact us as soon as possible."

A 25-year-old man and a 45-year-old man were later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.The 25-year-old was bailed until May 27 while the 45-year-old was bailed until July 1.
