A YOUNG footballer is in hospital in an induced coma after collapsing on the pitch during a game at Dartford Football Club.

Welling United youth player Ali Reith, who turned 16 on Tuesday, had to be given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR after he suddenly
fell to the ground during the pre-season friendly on Saturday.

However, Dartford FC said that updates from his family “seemed positive” and that the teenager was progressing “well, albeit slowly”.

Welling’s under-16s were playing Dartford at Princes Park.

A statement on Welling United’s website said: “Everyone at the club would like to extend our best wishes and thoughts to Ali and his family.

“We would to thank Tony Burman and Phil Murray from Dartford FC along with our own management team of Dave Shaw and John Cotton for their quick response to this traumatic event.”
