Young Welling United footballer Ali Reith, 16, is out of a coma and recovering in hospital after collapsing during a match at Dartford FC

THE young footballer who collapsed on the pitch during a match at Dartford Football Club is out of a coma and continuing to recover.

Welling United under-16s player Ali Reith had to be placed in an induced coma after collapsing during the game at Princes Park on Saturday, August 29.

The club announced on Friday that he was out of his coma, although still in hospital.

It held a collection for him the following day at the first team’s game against Tranmere Rovers.

“It would be fantastic if we could all show solidarity and help Ali and his family during this difficult period,” a statement on the club’s website said.

Ali, who turned 16 last week, had to be given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR after his sudden collapse during the pre-season friendly.
